Don't Speak

2 good songs, since Monday should be more about listening than talking.

1. Filligar - New Local - Envision having this playing on a nice cooler Spring/early Fall day and you're driving down a beautiful winding road to the mountains in North Carolina and all you see is greenery and sporadically placed country stores and little houses - and you're listening to this. Nice, huh.

2. We Can't Stop - Miley Cyris - This is the song that you probably wouldn't mention if you were trying to look really cool, but who cares, it's awesome. And it gets better on the 2nd and 3rd listen ;)

The Colors, Duke, the Colors! I'm Colorblind, Kid.

Yea, got your attention!
OK, First, watch this.
You are about to be hypnotized in the best possible way.

Isn't that beautiful? I learned about the musician from a documentary called "Press Pause Play" which was very interesting - about the changing world of music and technology - I highly recommend it.

So on a less important & meaningful note, just 2 days after I posted about tie dye (literally was slightly embarrassed to share my interest in it), Whowhatwear.com has a whole page on tie dye's return to the spotlight. Check out this literally one of a kind outfit below. They could have chosen way cooler images to include in their slide show of pieces, but hey.. who cares. I'm just happy they share my interest in these little rainbow numbers.

Read more here! FUN!
So on another exciting and colorful note, I ordered patio furniture for the terrace outside my room today which I am VERY excited about. I was going for this look (below)... but Rome wasn't built in a day... and either was my terrace. Plus, the environment is a little different, so I have to work with what I have.

So the primary difference here is that my space is a bit more confined (NYC) and I overlook other apartments instead of a waterfall - and in place of that little bear on the lounge chair will probably be a pigeon, and rather than all of those trees I have one potted (dying) "money tree" that tends to flip over mid day so I have to pick it up in the mornings, dust it off, and put some of its dust back in.
BUT, outdoor space in NYC is awesome and I have a view of the clock tower in Union Square AND I can hear the church bells ring AND I only have like 3 apartments that can see me when I lay there tanning. Until now I've tanned twice out there, and both times I laid on newspaper (homeless style) but now that I have lounge chairs it's going to be like literally walking out to a resort. YESSSss. And definitely better than going to lay out in Washington Square park because I have a bathroom inside and no crazies to get near me while I lay in peace and (partial)quiet.

So, I was assuming that the furniture I ordered would come looking like the 2 lounge chairs, 2 chairs and 1 small table, but instead was surprised to find 2 medium sized but like disproportionately heavier square boxes outside my door yesterday. "Now how can a lounge chair fit in a 3x3 ft box?," I thought to myself. "Fuck, it doesn't," I replied to myself. I guess for like $200 large items don't come assembled ex: IKEA, so now I have important plans for Saturday morning, because I need to build this furniture asap. Will post pics of it as soon as it's built! PS. I'm like secretly happy it came in pieces because I love building stuff. It's so rewarding when you get to look at a final product after a few days hours.

Here is one more good song to work to that I used to love in college, if you are interested. Love instrumental stuff like this. Especially when it involves a guitar or banjo. Nothin' like a good banjo.

Have a good weekend!

Happy Tunes

Need a happy Friday song? Listen to this one - it's so comforting for some reason. It's called "Nobody" by Hiatus.

On another note, there are lots of beautiful shoes out for Spring, and many of them at actually great prices. Aldo RISE (part of ALDO that gives designers a chance to work with its team) has collaborated with Preen to make these babies below. Love the white strappy heels. I've never been big into finding the lower priced pieces like these, but I actually think these styles are really great.
More here at whowhatwear.com
I love the bold styles this season - so visually pleasing. This pair of Sam Edelman sandals is super reasonably priced and has a very similar look. Definitely want these.
Sam Edelman "Trina" Sandal - Find here at Nordstrom - and they are only $100!
This black pair also by Sam Edelman is a perfect work shoe for Spring. For me the perfect work shoe is black generally, professional with a little flair, and also not a super high heel. I like to be put together but I don't want to regret my heel choice as I am pushing my way through 2 subways in the morning while rushing to work.
Find these at piperlime.com - $130. If you shop at piperlime they tend to send you 20% off coupons (I just got one), so  I will probably use for this pair. Also would be great to show a little ankle with a cropped skinny pant.

Leather is Better

If I had a dollar for every wedge sneaker I saw on a 30-something mother in Tribeca this past weekend... I'd have a lotttaaaa dollars. I'm having a bit of an internal conflict with myself about these "sneakers" because on one hand, it's cool, they are Euro looking...and adding a wedge heel is definitely more flattering than wearing flat sneakers, but on the other hand (or should I say, foot lols), why not just wear normal shoes if you are going to wear heels?!? They are a little too rap music video-y for me, but who knows, maybe I am behind the times. Or maybe the TriBeCa mothers are way chicer than I think. If I had to pick a fave, I guess it would be these black Lacoste wedges. I guess...
Buy them here, if you are so inclined.
They actually are a lot cooler styled and on..

My next favorite thing that I am really excited to receive is my new pair of leather shorts that I got from ASOS.com. I just love, love leather shorts, and while they are relatively impractical, I am going to embrace them and scurry around in them once the air temperature hits basically around 73 degrees fahrenheit, ideally when humidity is less than or equal to 50% and the sun is setting. This basically leaves about .2% of this year for me to wear these shorts comfortably, so I am really looking forward to my well thought out investment.
ASOS Leather Shorts

Also on my short list of things I want/need are 1) this pair of Tibi Strap Heels in black because they are just perfect for everything, and honestly, the one strap across your foot plus ankle strap is by far the most flattering sandal 2) this cross shirt. I still love studs and embellishments, just no spikes.

Tibi Black Strap Heels from revolveclothing.com
Shirt by Motel - also at revolveclothing.com
If you're into a collared version that also has a cool but more western influenced stud detail, try this one. Plus it's under $50!
From ASOS - find it here
And I just realized I haven't listened to one song all day, which is probably not helping my stress levels, so HERE, we can listen together. #TimeToBreathe

Day 2: Winter "Wonderland"

So after my rant yesterday about the weather, I thought it would be appropriate to include a couple pics and then a couple nice tunes to listen to while you are inside - or out, if you are that lucky. My mom and grandma are currently in Boca Raton, Florida, probably brunching, and I am currently booking a flight to join them in a few weeks. They don't know about my visit yet ;)
If you aren't familiar with Boca, this is it.
So heading to work this morning was - wet. Below you can see. It's something about NYC that is different from anywhere else, in that you have to actually deal with the climate - for like a solid 30 minutes sometimes as you get yourself to work or wherever you are heading. Like you really have to think ahead before you step outside, or you could be setting yourself up for a very unpleasant next 30 minutes. Ex: One time I decided to wear ballet flats on a day snowier/slushier than this.
So this is Union Square - or the bottom east part of it, where I enter ze zubway.
And I thought it would be appropriate to also show me in my own environment - sexy black puffy jacket and all. Can I tell you how excited I am to not wear this thing anymore? It's just like the only outerwear that is legitimately warm enough in this "situation" so I've decided it's more important to be physically comfortable than aesthetically pleasing. I don't think I've ever included a pic of myself on my blog thus far, so I am sorry we have to meet this way :), but this is only to exemplify my inner conflict and super cute outfit. Joke.
I promise to include only those pics that exclude double chins from here on out.
And now if you are at your desk, or wherever by a computer, I think it's a perfect time to share a few good happy little songs, since they are what is getting me through a good deal of this day - coupled with the thought that it's Friday!

Click here if you want a slow remix version of a good 90s song. I LOVE 90s. So HERE YOU GO. I just started using this site, hypem.com - great for finding new good songs and remixes, so you can follow me - my username is BLAIREMON.

This is another peaceful little tune as well. There are lots more, it's just that I need to start with slower stuff this morning. Enjoy!

Oh, one more thing! In true spirit of this blog - and because I will always like country - here is a mix of something awesome: Taylor Swift, CHVRCHES and Lana Del Rey - take a listen! The CHVRCHES part is super catchy.

All This & Heaven, Too

Song of the day, no wait, song of the week. Great song by Florence and the Machines. Perfect NYC walking music (where the background music kind of gives more life to daily things that you see as you look around on your walk, and actually makes those things charming.)

I hope you enjoy this as much as I am. Literally listening nonstop.

Shut Up & Kiss Me

Here is one of my favorite feel good country songs. The video is great, too.
